Even experienced farmers are always learning to adapt and make necessary changes in order to improve and help plants grow healthier. Eva being one of them is showing us and other Restore grantees what ought to do and what to avoid. It might be frustrating at first, but having witnessed the improvements over time, it could be very encouraging and inspiring. Thus, this is why Eva continues to put her faith in regenerative farming while proudly advertising RF to other farmers as well as consumers, including her recent sale at the Vegetarian Food Asia Expo.
Spinaches are often grown in cooler seasons as they cannot withstand temperature over 25C. Eva is one of the very few farmers in Hong Kong that are able to grow it and raise it with such high quality. These dark, even green colours with visible gloss show that spinaches have high photosynthesis efficiency with high respiration.
At the beginning of 23-24 Restore, Eva’s Choy Sum faced serious pest issues and she wasn't able to grow them properly (image on the left). After regular nutrient amendment application in her next crop cycle, we can see huge differences in terms size and worm bites (image on the right). Although pests are not entirely gone, it is much more manageable. Eva even said herself, bird attacks are the bigger problem now.
