May 2024
The nonstop downpour over the past month took its toll on Sangwoodgoon, drowning some crops and rendering some fruit crops unharvestable. But, thanks to six months of implementing regenerative practices, other crops showed signs of resiliency.
Despite warmer weather and irregular rainfall, farmer Sze Chung was still able to harvest these French Beans planted in early February, a testament to the crop's health.

Sangwoodgoon grows a variety of beans, and they make a habit of allowing some of the harvest to mature into seeds. Depending on the variety, farmer Sze Chung adds compost and Trichoderma solutions when cultivating the seeds, and sometimes basalt into the ground before sowing. These practices improve the crop’s nutrient absorption at the initial growth stage and increase resilience to pests and diseases.
Previously, quality control of inputs has been a challenge at Sangwoodgoon.
Our TAPs and consultants have been able to provide additional guidance and the ferments mentioned in our second update are finally ready to be used!
